3PM (SHARP) > TOWARDS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING IN ORDER TO FOSTER BETTER SUPPORT
FRANÇOISE SUSSET, Clinical Psychologist – Institute for Sexual Minority Health, Montréal
More and more youth and adults are coming-out as transgender (“trans”), meaning they identify with a gender that differs from the one they were assigned at birth. The current media focus on popular trans cultural figures creates the impression that this is a new phenomenon yet transgender individuals have always existed. This new visibility results in an increased risk of violence directed towards trans individuals, who by their existence alone challenge some of the very foundations of western society. This conference will serve as an introduction to the lived experiences of trans people with the goal of better understanding the challenges they face.
In the closing conference :
Discussion with the Honorable Cheri DiNovo, MPP Parkdale – High Park and Sasha Cragg-Gore, Lawyer, Centre Francophone, Toronto, to introduce the latest Federal Bill, a review of the lawmaking history, recourses and defence means to protect transgendered people.
4:30PM > JE SUIS TRANS (I AM TRANS), DOCUMENTARY SERIES
MOI&cie TV, Inspire & Entertain – Montréal
Screening of “Je suis Trans” (I Am Trans), a Docu-Reality that thrusts us into the heart of 5 transgender persons worlds, exploring their confidences and emotions.
The projection will be followed by a lively talk and the testimonies of Danielle Chénier and Zacharry Dufour, two protagonists from the show, and Françoise Susset.
